My Story
From nearly losing myself to helping others find their way home

I’m Dr. Maiysha Clairborne — an integrative physician, speaker, trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and founder of the Mind ReMapping Company. I help individuals and organizations understand trauma and how it affects the brain, our behavior, and the way we communicate.
But before any of the titles, I was someone who had to learn, the hard way, that healing others starts with healing yourself. This is the story of how I found my way there.
The Calling
My journey began at Emory University, where I earned my degree in psychology. I went on to complete my medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine and my Family Medicine Residency at Florida Hospital, with specialty trainings in acupuncture, integrative medicine, and eventually Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I became an integrative family physician, devoted to caring for others.
I loved medicine. I loved my patients. And still, something inside me was quietly wearing thin.
The Turning Point
Burnout doesn’t always announce itself. For me it arrived slowly, as depression and a bone-deep exhaustion I couldn’t explain away. I began to climb out — and then, a few years later, I found myself sliding right back down.
I’ve since been open about how dark that season became. There was a time I nearly lost my life to it — and later, in the depths of burnout, I recognized that same familiar feeling returning. That recognition became the most important moment of my life. Because this time, instead of pushing through, I stopped and asked a different question: not how do I survive this? but how do I actually heal?
“When I stopped seeing my struggle as something permanent to overcome, and started seeing it as an experience to lean into with curiosity, everything began to change.”
The ReMapping
Healing led me somewhere I never expected. I discovered the power of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, hypnosis, and trauma-informed practice — and I came to understand something that would reshape my life’s work: the power of word, and how our unconscious thoughts and beliefs have a direct impact on the reality we create.
I learned that by mastering our language, both internal and external, we put ourselves in the driver’s seat of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We become not only conscious, but responsible for the impact of our words — able to communicate in a way that builds bridges rather than burns them. That truth became the foundation of the Mind ReMapping Company: that we can retrain the brain and remap the mind toward the lives, and the leadership, we were meant for.
Today
Today I focus my work with corporations, medical systems, and educational institutions — helping them build trauma responsiveness, emotional intelligence, and a growth-mindset culture that increases inclusiveness, equity, and belonging. I’ve had the honor of gracing the TEDx Asheville stage, training at the International Conference on Physician Health and the WELLMED Physician Conference in Greece, and serving as a faculty facilitator for the ACGME’s Equity Matters Project.
But the heart of it is simpler than any stage. If you’re standing where I once stood — tired, unsure, wondering if there’s another way — I want you to know there is. You are not too far gone. Your story isn’t over. And the mind that got you here can be remapped toward the life you were always meant to design.
